What a week! Many students have been in and out due to sickness. Please remind your child to always wash their hangs, use hand sanitizer when necessary, and cover their mouth when coughing and/or sneezing. Taking these simple precautions will help keep those pesky germs away from your child at school. This week students have continued working on their projects. First and second graders are responding to the book The Day the Crayons Quit. Third and fourth graders are planning their dream vacations, looking more in depth at various tourism websites to find attractions and accommodations. Kindergartners read the book Jangles: A Big Fish Story by David Shannon, a nominee for the 2014-2015 Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. The students greatly enjoyed the illustrations and the funny things Jangles the fish did. Students in grades K-3 who read at least 3 of the award nominees will be able to help choose the winner of the book award. Kindergartners are looking forward to sharing their opinion in March! THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING, THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING! Come to our Book Fair February 16-20. The fair will be open from 8:00-3:30pm daily. Thursday, February 19th, the night of Parent Teacher Conferences, will be the grand event! Be sure to stop by to grab a little snack, play a game, purchase tickets to win one of TEN prize baskets, and shop an amazing selection of books! Volunteers are needed during the week to help students shop and on Thursday evening to help manage the prize baskets, games, and snacks. Contact Mrs. Lehew today to volunteer! Read a book (or two) and enjoy your weekend! Weekly Top 10

I believe watching the news is important. My family watches the news every evening, and the news is on in the morning while I get ready for work. I believe it is our responsibility as citizens to stay informed as it allows us to be informed voters. Teaching children to be informed citizens is essential. However, tragic, horrific things happen in the world we live in. You may or may not want your child to see certain accounts on the news. DOGO News is a great way for your child to read kid-friendly news accounts!
Students began new, exciting projects this week! Kindergarten students are learning about book awards, specifically the Arkansas Diamond Primary Book Award. They have read One Cool Friend, Extra Yarn, and Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs. They will be voting for their favorite in March! First and second grade read the book The Day the Crayons Quit. How horrible would it be if your crayons quit?! Students are responding to their favorite crayon, persuading them to not quit. We love our crayons! Third and fourth graders are planning their dream vacation getaway! They will be researching travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, and sight-seeing opportunities. So far, destinations include Hawaii, Alaska, France, Spain, the Bahamas, Madagascar, and many, many more places all over the world! Read a book (or two) and enjoy your weekend! Destiny Quest is the interactive, kid-friendly OPAC, or online public access catalog, that is used at school. Students are able to search for books, place books on hold, make friends, and recommend books. It. Is. Awesome! Now, Destiny Quest has an app! You can find the app in iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon. After you download the app, because you know you will, it will ask you to enter the URL or IP address for the library. Enter the numbers 66.204.21.139 and voila! Your student should be able to log in EXACTLY the same way they login at school. All 2nd through 4th grade students have access and know how to use Destiny Quest. Kindergarten and 1st graders will be taught after Spring Break. Let's get our students excited about reading! Enjoy the app! Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday season. I sure enjoyed mine and was ready to see the students Monday morning! This week the library has already circulated 500 books! It makes my heart happy to see students enjoying and excited about reading! Weekly Top 5 5. The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog 4. Junie B., First Grader 3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth 2.
