Today, teachers and students are celebrating...Thanksgiving Break begins tomorrow! In this season of thanksgiving, I have much to be thankful for: health, friends, family, and a great place to work. I am greatly enjoying my time in the library, and I am very thankful to work among such wonderful teachers and students! I challenge you to think of what you are thankful for. Leave a comment below to share! Calling all reading enthusiasts! Your student has the opportunity to vote for their favorite picture book (K-3 students) or chapter book (4-6 students)! All across the state, students are reading books that are nominated for the Arkansas Diamond Primary and Charlie May Simon book awards. A selection committee has created a list of nominees. Your student must read at least three titles from the list in order to vote in March. Please encourage your child to read and participate in choosing the best book published in 2014!

Two more shipments should be arriving within the next couple of weeks. Get excited! Students are continuing their animal research. Between now and Christmas, 1st and 2nd grade will begin creating posters to present their information, and 3rd and 4th graders will use Powtoon or Google Slides to share their information. Throughout the research process, I have stressed the importance of using information responsibly. We have discussed the idea of plagiarism and the importance of creating original work. Students are learning to simply cite their sources, giving the credit where credit is due. Students are doing well and creating excellent citation lists! This Week's Top 5: 1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules 2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3. More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 4. I Survived! The Sinking of the Titanic, 1912 5. November is Picture Book Month! In today's age, books are literally at our fingertips thanks to E-Readers and mobile devices. However, November is the month to celebrate and support the PRINT version of picture books! I love the feeling of turning the pages in a book, and who doesn't love that new book smell?! I for one, am very grateful for the authors and illustrators who create such beautiful, wonderful books! Let's show our appreciation by reading print picture books with friends and family! Below are some of my favorite picture books that I will be rereading this month. What picture books are your favorites? What picture books are you reading? Leave a comment to share!
